Battlefield Bad Company 2 FoV guide

March 12, 2010 in Battlefield Bad Company 2 by Phaine

A lot of us have been playing around with BFBC2 in the past few days and one of the features you can edit in the settings files outside of the game can give you an edge.  By default the view in BFBC2 is rather restrictive.

Now, personally I have played FPS games for a long time, but never really messed with the FoV (Field of View) before, in fact the first I ever heard of it was when folks were complaining about it not being present in Modern warfare 2.

Well, how much of a change are we talking here?

Well take a look at these images that were posted on the official forums here.

Default field of view (55)

65 FoV

75 FoV

85 FoV

95 FoV

Max FoV 200

Finally an animated view, so you can easier see the changes. (click the image to see the animation)

As you can see someone with a greater FoV would be able to see a threat on the right or left that would normally be completely invisible…this also lets you know a good angle to approach a victim from.

Anyways, to alter this setting for your game personally head on over to “C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\BFBC2″ (may vary slightly per pc) and simply edit the last entry in the file “Fov=55″ to whatever you wish. Play around with the different settings and find what works best for you.

So, we’ve been in ICC10 now for about 3 weeks all things considering. Given our TERRIBLE luck with blizzards perfect RNG, we’ve had to struggle with gear. That being said we’re still blazing through the content and soon we’re going to be on the frost wing.

Our current attempts on blood queen have been excellent and we’re probably another night away from getting a kill, with several 13-15% attempts from last week I’m confident it’s just around the corner. That being said, when we’re done with that whore it’s time to take down mr putricide here:

If you want to be apart of a guild that can get to and clear end game content, then check out our application forum and submit an app. We look forward to hearing from you!

Progression

March 5, 2010 in World of Warcraft by Phaine

Well its been a few weeks since I posted last and figured I’d update.

Currently we are progressing through ICC 10 fairly quickly. We ended up downing the princes last week, and are now working on Blood Queen. Our first run at her we managed to get her to 30% so Im fairly confident we can get her down in the next week.

We are still recruiting, so if you have an interest hit up the forums, or contact Rickytick in game.

For those who are in the guild and are curious about the EPGP system we use, please check this post out. Also, we have it setup so that anyone can see their rank in game so simply download the EPGP addon from curse or where ever you get your addons and type /epgp in game. Finally, I do try and upload our log to the EPGP site once a week so feel free to click the EPGP link on the right tab to see where you are, however, understand that can be up to a week old if I’ve been lazy, so for best results get the addon or ask an officer.

We are recruiting!

February 12, 2010 in World of Warcraft by Rickytick

We’re now recruiting for ICC 10 and 25 man. If you want to apply click the TDK Forums link on the right panel of the page, then register an account. After that, follow the directions in the Recruitment forum.

We’re currently looking for a MT healer, preferably a paladin and Two DPS to round out our 10 man core.

We are also recruiting most class and specs for our 25 man roster.

A graphical look at EvE and STO

February 9, 2010 in EvE Online, Star Trek Online by Phaine

Ok, maybe Im just being a bit harsh, but as a huge trek fan I was really hoping for more from the game. You know its bad…when you get the game for FREE and you feel a bit ripped off.

If you are a die hard STO fan… just realize I dont hate the game, I dont want it to fail… Im just trying to figure out why the hell Cryptic made some of the choices they did. Let’s look at graphics.

Now before you say anything, yes I know graphics mean nothing really but Eye candy. Doesnt tell us a damn bit about game play, and there are some games out there that run in 256 color on a 386 that would put some current games to shame. So… no debate there at all. However, since its my site, I did want to compare STO a “Current AAA title” vs EvE a 2003 indy release.

First off lets take a look at STO.

Thats a bit of footage of me on my fresh character roaming around saving some poor helpless ship from possible destruction. I will say STO has the sounds of trek down great, and the weapon animations themselves arent to shabby. It’s not as nice as say watching The Next Generation CGI effects sadly, but it’ll do.

Ok lets take a gander at some footage in EvE I snapped on my way to Jita.

Now personally, I think its rather sad that Cryptic cant throw out something to rival a game that was released in 2003… but Im a bit biased. Im curious to see what people think. Do you think Cryptic rushed it? Cut corners? or am I simply just being overly critical and need to shut up.

Magicka cool game you’ve never heard of.

February 6, 2010 in Magicka by Phaine

There have been a lot of diablo clones since the original game came out. Some of them have been good, some of them not so good… rarely we get a gem. Im now really looking forward to this title, and you gotta dig their sarcastic humor!

Star Trek Offline

February 6, 2010 in Star Trek Online by Phaine

Well most folks in TDK know Im a rather hardcore Sci Fi fan. If its space, has aliens, and some form of lasers then I simply cant get enough.

Due to this I just happen to be a rather big Star Trek fan. I havent up till now purchased the game as my time in beta was rather unimpressive…but…as a trekkie its rather hard to resist the urge of Leonard Nemoy calling to me at night.

Thankfully my problem was solved when a buddy and guildmate (Seires) decided to hook me up with a copy. Man o Man was I excited. Downloaded the game fast as possible from Direct2drive at a blazing 2.2megs a second and in no time was patched and ready to go.

Right as I go to log in, bam server crash. I go to the forums and a Cryptic employee posts about an unexpected downtime…however he copy and pastes an OLD post about a scheduled maintenance…wtf… ok typos happen but usually you fix them when you notice, well not this guy. Its 2 hours later and he still has the wrong notification up.

Oh well no worries servers down for 20 minutes and they patch…wait… how do you have an unscheduled downtime / crash and then follow it with a patch. Come again? Oh well… no worries shit happens.

I create my toon get into game and start the rather lengthy (1 hour plus) tutorial. Its been about 40 minutes since the server crashed and Im almost done with the ground phase of the tutorial when my toon starts rubber banding like mad. Sure enough server goes down. I head to the forums again, still have the same broken announcement about the previous downtime unfixed…and no new announcement. Hopefully someone there knows there was a crash.

After talking to a few of the other rather angry forum denizens it turns out this is the 5th “Unscheduled emergency downtime” for the day. Folks are now calling it Star Trek Offline and apparently Cryptic is trying to get in touch with Guinness Books so they can nock off Funcom with Anarchy Online as the most unstable launch of all time.

Well grats Cryptic, you definitely made one hell of a first impression on me. Something tells me many refunds and charge backs will be springing up over the weekend.

Global Agenda

January 31, 2010 in Global Agenda by Phaine

So its no secret that I like shooters and most of TDK does too, but its been a while since a good one came out. Modern Warfare 2 was a joke with their non-dedicated server fiasco, however things are turning around.

For those of you who have been around for a while may remember a much loved game from the 90’s called Starsiege Tribes and no… I dont mean the second one, that one was garbage. Well this week in my usual browsing of mmorpg.com I happened to find a post about Global Agenda and decided to read it and was rather shocked.

Take a look at this.

Now that game play looks creepily like a moderned up Tribes and that alone would probably make the game worth picking up, but check this out.

"500" height="323" id="viddlerplayer-b50e0603">

So I think a few of us are going to give this game a shot, and Ill let you know what we think.

First night in ICC

January 28, 2010 in World of Warcraft by Phaine

Well last night we gave our first go at ICC and we had mixed expectations. We figured progress would be slow, but we’d down a few bosses.

However by the end of the night we had downed 3 bosses and almost gotten Saurfang down. Sadly we didnt have enough ranged DPS to deal with the nasty beasts so we ended up calling it.

Not to bad for a guild that just hit 80 about 2 weeks ago.

Here is the loot we got.

  1. Linebackher = Muradin’s Spyglass
  2. Rickytick = Bracers of Dark Blessings

Sadly everything else was mail or guildbanked, hopefully we get some better drops tonight.

Its time for ICC.

January 27, 2010 in World of Warcraft by Phaine

Well last night was our second week of raiding. We nocked out the weekly raid early in the day, and then managed to pound out VoA 10, Ony 10, and ToC 10.

The only fight that gave us any trouble was the Champions fight, but we think that was mainly due to one of our pug dps’ers dropping the ball on CC.

Over all it was a great night and looking forward to starting ICC 10 man this week. I added last nights EPGP stats to the site, so simply click the link to the right to find out where you stand.
